Annual quilt show returns to Elks Club after COVID-19 hiatusDate: 4/12/2022 SPRINGFIELD – The Pioneer Valley Quilt Guild’s annual quilt show is finally returning after a two year hiatus due to COVID-19.
The Pieces of Time Quilt Show will take place on April 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on 440 Tiffany St. in Springfield.
According to Pioneer Valley Quilt Guild member Elaine Conway, the show will display numerous quilts made by members. There will also be various quilt shop vendors in attendance to sell their wares and boutiques where various items that members have made, such as potholders, table toppers and more, will be available for purchase.
“We figured it would be perfect for just before Mother’s Day,” said Conway. A large quilt made by Guild member John Roy will be raffled off and theme baskets will be raffled as well. Conway said the show will even feature a quilt appraiser and lunch provided by the Elks.
The Pioneer Valley Quilt Guild had a show planned for 2020 but were forced to cancel it when the coronavirus pandemic hit.
“This is the first quilt show that we’ve had in a while, but I understand that the very first quilt show was in 1992. The Guild was formed in 1988 and they had a quilt show four years later,” said Conway.
With the return of the show, Conway said that she is most excited to look at the quilts and talk to others about quilting advice, techniques and more.
“I love looking at all the quilts and all the stuff that’s made, and talking to people about it too,” she said. “It’s just a learning process, it’s a creative process. I look forward to talking to other people who might just want to dabble in it and we’ll try to convince them to go ahead and go for it.”
The Pioneer Valley Quilt Guild is also looking for new members. Conway said that both men and women are welcome to join and they can attend their first meeting for $5.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.
Membership for the Guild is $30 and Conway said that their meetings usually consist of speakers or designers who share techniques, time to work on community outreach projects and a show and tell section to highlight what members are making and designing.
She encouraged anyone interested to join.
“Anyone who’s even an inkling interested, you know, if they think ‘I’ve never tried it, but I’d like to try it,’ come to a meeting because people will encourage you and there’s people who can answer questions and help you with things. It’s been a lot of fun,” said Conway.
