Bing Arts Center showcases work of Pioneer Valley’s Chris PageDate: 2/4/2016 SPRINGFIELD – Chris Page, a longtime artist in the Pioneer Valley, has a new exhibit of paintings and photographs titled “Moment by Moment, Painting and Photographic Suites” at the Bing Arts Center, 716 Sumner Ave. The show runs through March 26.
Page centers his work on the flow of transformation in the sky, ocean, and landscape. His work merges abstraction and landscape in a dialogue between nature and the practice of painting. In 2013, Page started to move his art practice out of the studio to include “sky-walks,” where his witnessing of the unfolding daytime sky is documented in photographic sequences and later reflected in paintings.
One of Page’s galleries at the Bing Arts Center features several pieces from his Sky Series titled “Warm Wind 11-06-2015, 10:46 – 11:13 AM.” On one wall, a five-panel painting, spanning 20 feet, reflects the transformation of the sky over a 27-minute period. The second gallery includes two large paintings and a long, multi-image, photographic sequence, both of which are based on the dissipation patterns of waves hitting shore. The Bing lobby features a large photograph and a long photographic sequence hung vertically, floor to ceiling, which document moments of the sun reflecting on shallow water at Fortunes Rock Beach, Maine.
Page explained, “I want my work to be viewed metaphorically as mirroring our own transformation of consciousness through contemplation of the immense field of the ocean or sky.”
Page lives and works in the Amherst/Northampton area of Western Massachusetts.
Gallery hours are Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., during events and by appointment. For an appointment, contact Page at chris@pagestudios.com. For more information, visit www.bingartscenter.org.
