Bing to present For A Limited Time Only painting exhibitDate: 11/7/2014 SPRINGFIELD – The Bing Arts Center is pleased to present For A Limited Time Only, an installation by Amy “BannerQueen” Johnquest. She has been an integral part of the Valley art scene for many years.
Blessed with a great design sense, innate creativity, and a seriously quirky sense of humor, Johnquest has produced a veritable treasure trove of memorable work blending fine art with banners, signs, posters, and other promotional design pieces.
The paintings are directly influenced by classic circus sideshow banners. Using pop cultural references with text and imagery, she creates advertisements that do not sell anything and play with the double entendres and curiosities in the language of signage.
There will be an opening reception and dance party Nov. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. All are invited to behold a wondrous art show and dance to the salubrious tones of Trailer Park.
A Holiday Bizarre will be presented on Dec. 6 from 1 to 6 p.m. featuring art for sale by Amy and several other artists. This will be a perfect opportunity to enjoy art, have fun, and stock up on cool holiday gifts.
The Bing Arts Center’s gallery is open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and evenings with scheduled events.

The Bing Arts Center is pleased to present a performance by the New West Guitar Group (NWGG) Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. as part of the House Concert Series.
Featuring Jeff Stein, John Storie, and Perry Smith, New West has been making their mark as a fresh, cutting-edge guitar ensemble. Performing popular covers and original music, NWGG combines acoustic and electric guitar to create their signature sound. Based in Los Angeles and New York, NWGG tours extensively throughout the United States giving concerts and master classes.
Praised as “sharp and refined” by the Seattle Times, New West Guitar Group infuses its latest disc “Big City” with its signature blend of laid-back virtuosity and expert arrangements that “sometimes verge on the orchestral,” according to All Music Guide.
Firmly rooted in classic jazz, the trio’s versatility as both players and composers has given them a reputation as pioneers in the realm of guitar ensemble repertoire. Acoustic Guitar Magazine has praised the group for its ability to shift seamlessly “from chamber-like elegance and fragile introspection to exhilarating swing and gritty blues.”
