SPRINGFIELD The park is alive with the sounds of music as "Sounds of Summer Concerts in the Parks" series kicks off its third year of free concerts. Scheduled in July and August, five outdoor performances will take place at Blunt Park on consecutive Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
The contemporary pop sounds of Brass Attack will take place on July 29. Now in their 12th year together, the group is a staple at area night clubs and festivals performing classic hits from the last 30 years, such as those by Chicago, Bruce Springsteen, Steely Dan and others. Brass Attack has performed at major events throughout New England and at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The members include Carl Sittard on drums, Keith Martin on saxophone and Mike Kennedy on bass guitar all from Chicopee; Scott Haber of Westfield on trumpet; Neal Schermerhorn of Ware on trombone; Rob Desgres of South Hadley on guitar; lead vocalist Ed Chouinare of Southwick; and Dave Fournier of Easthampton on keyboard.
Parking is free. Picnicking is encouraged, as well as dancing. Families and friends should bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the concerts. Central High School, adjacent to Blunt Park, is the rain site. The concerts are sponsored by the Springfield Department of Parks, Buildings & Recreation Management, and are paid for in part by a grant from the Springfield Cultural Council, an agency of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
