Pulitzer winner coming to STCCDate: 9/26/2014 SPRINGFIELD – Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winning author, musician, and screenwriter James McBride will perform at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) on Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. in the Scibelli Hall gymnasium in building 2.
McBride is the author of “The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother,” a moving narrative about his mother – a white Jewish woman from Poland who married a black man, founded a Baptist church, and put 12 children through college. “The Color of Water” has sold over two million copies and spent two years on the New York Times Bestseller list and is read in colleges and high schools nationwide.
McBride is also an award-winning composer and saxophonist who penned songs (music and lyrics) for Anita Baker, Grover Washington Jr., and Gary Burton, as well as for the PBS character “Barney.” He co-wrote the film “Red Hook Summer” with Spike Lee, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
A graduate of Oberlin College and the Columbia School of Journalism, McBride has written for The Boston Globe, People, and The Washington Post.
The event is free and open to the public. An author signing will be held outside the gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and copies of McBride’s books will be available for purchase through Olive Tree Books.
