The Best Damn Sandwich: On The Hill’s turkey clubDate: 10/3/2018 FEEDING HILLS – This week, I began my job as a full-time reporter for The Reminder, and it has been truly difficult. I was asked to taste test Buffalo wings on my first day in the office, and now, I was sent to try a sandwich. I love this job!
Continuing on the ongoing hunt for the best sandwiches in our circulation area, our reader Mike Murray led us to On the Hill, a family-owned restaurant in Feeding Hills reminiscent of a cozy diner. With a sit-down counter, booths and tables, On the Hill was warm and inviting. I was happy to sit down and request the next sandwich on our list.
With confidence, I ordered the turkey club sandwich. I wasn’t expecting the many options I had. Cheese or no cheese, toasted or untoasted, bread type, mayonnaise or no mayonnaise – I realized there were several ways to enjoy this sandwich. I opted for a classic: mayonnaise with cheese on toasted white bread, paired with a mountain of French fries. I was not disappointed.
The turkey club is made with bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey and mayonnaise between three slices of bread. You have the option of choosing chips, French fries (sweet potato or traditional,) potato salad or cole slaw. Sides are always great, but the sandwich was the superstar of the plate in this instance.
I’ve had a lot of turkey sandwiches in my time, but this sandwich was different. The tower of turkey was wonderful down to the last bite. The mayonnaise complimented the toasted bread excellently, and I was almost disappointed to have finished it (not that I could have eaten another bite.)
With a restaurant full of happy patrons calling owner Jennifer Marr by first name, it’s clear that our readers and myself are not the only ones who think On the Hill has great food and awesome service. I can see why the turkey club was recommended as the “best sandwich.”
