Wistariahurst Museum announces upcoming January events

January 2009 events at Wistariahurst Museum include:
Jan. 7 -- 28 -- Exhibition: "The Fabric of Our Lifes: Pieces of Wistariahurst's Costume Collection." In January and February, the museum will open its closet doors to display the best pieces of its costume and textile collection. Admission is $10.
Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. -- Exhibition opening and reception: "Romance a Guayama, Holyoke and Puerto Rico: The Truth as Seen by the Teen Mothers of The Care Center of Holyoke." Wistariahurst will showcase a collaborative effort between painter and muralist Alvilda Victoria Martinez-Anaya and the teen mothers of the Care Center. This exhibit will be on view through Jan. 26. Gallery hours are Saturday, Sunday and Monday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $3.
Jan. 19 from 9:30 a.m. -- 1:30 p.m. -- "Girl Scout and Youth Program: Architecture." Scouts and youth will study floor plans and learn how to create and design a box city through hands-on activity. Bring a bag lunch. Registration fee is $7 per youth or scout; chaperones are free. Call the museum to register.
Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. -- Workshop on Textile Preservation. City Historian and Curator Kate Thibodeau will lead a workshop on how to preserve textiles. Bring a sample of what you need preserved. Admission is $10.
Jan. 23, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. -- "I Choose to be the One: The Adventures of Belle Skinner." A thoroughly enjoyable one woman play by Ann Maggs will be followed by lunch and a tour of the museum. Admission is $20 and includes lunch and tour. Reservations are required. Space is limited.
Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. -- "I Choose to be the One: The Adventures of Belle Skinner" will be performed again at this time. Admission is $15. Reservations are required. Space is limited.
