"Pirates" Bring People to Caribbean

Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas, now has the 175 foot Flying Dutchman, the actual pirate ship used in the movie.

Immediately after watching Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest, the credits rolled and everyone left except us. We were dying to find out which Caribbean locations were used in the film. The screen revealed both Grand Bahama Island and Exuma Island in the Bahamas,(ironically not part of the Caribbean),and the lush Caribbean island of Dominica(not to be confused with the Dominican Republic).

The success of the $360 million plus blockbuster is reaping a virtual treasure chest of new Pirates' inspired vacation options. Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas, now has the 175 foot Flying Dutchman, the actual pirate ship used in the movie. The ship is a prop and was designed for movie making, not for foot traffic, so it serves as a one of a kind backdrop for memorable vacation pictures. There is even a Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike for all you paparazzi out there. Castaway Cay is part of a Disney Cruise experience. Let the Cruise Store's Disney College of Knowledge trained agents assist you. Dominica is a small island located in the eastern Caribbean. It has numerous rivers and waterfalls, a lush tropical rainforest, some world class scuba diving, and is now a principal film location for Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3(due out Spring 2007). We can offer special land packages (yes, we do more than cruises) tailored to landlubbers who would like to actually visit the places where several scenes from the movie were filmed. A fun website with lots of info is www.piratesdominica.com.

Grand Bahama Island is easy to get to, being only 55 miles east of Palm Beach, Florida. A number of Pirate themed land vacations are available at resorts on the island.

Some cruise ships offer Grand Bahamas and Dominica as ports of call.
