The Journey Begins!

Royal Caribbean, the parent company of Celebrity Cruises, recently purchased Spain's Pullmantur Cruises, and there has been speculation in the industry that they would replace their older ship the Zenith, with one of the Pullmantur ships. Well, they have done just that! They are replacing the Celebrity Zenith with Pullmantur's Blue Dream (the former R6 owned by Renaissance Cruises), and will rename it Celebrity Journey. It will operate under Celebrity Expeditions, their small ship brand, and begin sailing Bermuda itineraries May 5, 2007.

The Celebrity Zenith was a smaller (48,811 tons and 1354 passengers), older ship that was much loved by a very loyal clientele. It was the perfect size ship for the New Jersey to Bermuda sailings, small enough to be able to dock right in downtown Hamilton and St. George's. Although the service and food onboard were superb there were no balcony staterooms, and the ship needed some major updating.

"Celebrity Journey will be an ideal ship for the Bermuda market" said Celebrity Cruise President Dan Hanrahan. "It's smaller size and upscale style are perfect compliments to premium destinations such as St. Georges & Hamilton."

Journey will offer the traditional Celebrity cruise experience in a more intimate environment. It is 30,277 tons with a passenger capacity of 718, has a guest to staff ratio of 2 to 1, and 93% of the staterooms will be ocean-view, with 68% of those having private verandas. The ship will feature new deluxe bedding and brand new state of the art fitness equipment in their award winning AquaSpa . It will also offer Celebrity's signature elements such as two specialty restaurants; in room service from the dining room menu; expanded spa services, including in-room offerings; their famous Martini bar; Michael's Club; Cova Caf Milano; expanded concierge service, including butlers.
