The Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton will host special performances of "Birth" on Sept. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m., along with a matinee production on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. The proceeds will benefit MotherWoman and other organizations supporting birthing women in the Pioneer Valley. An open talkback session will immediately follow each performance. Accompanying the play will be a Red Tent, which will be set up on Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. in front of the First Churches in Northampton on the corner of Center and Main Streets (rain or shine). Open to the public, the Red Tent provides a free, safe drop-in space for mothers to gather and talk about all aspects of their pregnancies and birth experiences, positive and negative, including issues of grief, trauma and loss. There will be a space for creative work, journaling and an audio recording area for mothers who want to tell their stories. Additionally, midwives and mothers' group leaders will be available for discussion. |
