‘Paws on the Town’ supports local restaurants, DakinDate: 5/28/2021 SPRINGFIELD – During the month of June, Dakin Humane Society will host their new Paws on the Town event to bring people together to support local restaurants and local animals.
Throughout the month, animal lovers will be able to visit participating restaurants, snap a selfie and be entered to win prizes. People are encouraged to support the business by dining in or ordering out, but no purchase is required to enter. Selfies can then be uploaded to social media with the hashtag “#pawsonthetown” and the name of the restaurant.
“The really nice thing about the selfie is that you do not need to be eating out. If you’re walking by and you want to show your support to the restaurants, you can snap a picture from outside as well.” said Kaitlyn Holloway, development & events coordinator at Dakin.
Each selfie will give participants an opportunity to win gift cards to local businesses, ranging from $20 to $50. So far, Holloway said that they have gift cards from Ice Cream Alley in Greenfield, businesses in Downtown Northampton and the Munich Haus in Chicopee.
“The more that people support the participating local businesses, the more chances they have to win,” said Holloway.
On June 22, restaurants will fundraise for Dakin by donating a portion of their proceeds to the Humane Society. Participating locations can choose to donate 15 percent of proceeds and premier locations will donate 20 percent.
All funds collected on June 22 will go toward supporting Dakin programs that help keep people and pets together. These programs include their affordable vaccination clinic and pet food aid program.
Holloway said that they have already had restaurants begin to sign up, but they will still be accepting more up until June 22.
“If people are looking to hop on, we’d love to have them participate. We’re really looking forward to seeing all the selfies of people out and about again supporting restaurants,” she said.
Restaurants interested in the event can visit the Dakin Paws on the Town page at https://www.dakinhumane.org/paws-on-the-town.html to sign up.
Holloway said that she is excited to see people supporting local businesses all across Western Massachusetts.
“What we really love is that this event can span across Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden Counties, so folks in all areas of Western Mass. are able to get involved,” she said.
She is also looking forward to the selfies and support from animal lovers.
“I’m really excited to see the photos of people out supporting our community again. It’s been a really long year, so I’m really hoping that we get some great pictures, possibly some pictures of people treating their dog to ice cream. I love to see the dogs out on the patios too,” said Holloway.
Anyone unable to dine out or get takeout on June 22 can also visit Dakin’s website to donate there. Holloway said that Dakin is accepting monetary donations and is also currently looking for foster parents for specific animals.
Those with further questions or inquiries are encouraged to email Holloway at kholloway@dakinhumane.org or call 781-4000.
