Rays of Hope hosts ‘Parade of Hope’ fundraiserDate: 10/27/2020 SPRINGFIELD – Oct. 25 was supposed to be the day to conduct the annual Rays of Hope walk-run that raises money to fund local efforts to assist the treatment of breast cancer, but instead more than 400 participants came to Baystate Health’s education facility in Holyoke to drop off their donations and to be honored for their help.
Dubbed “the Parade of Hope,” The drive-through event allowed participants the opportunity, without getting out of their cars, to pick up their 2020 t-shirt and for BIG WIGS to pick up their special goodie bag sponsored by USA Waste & Recycling Inc. Breast Cancer survivors will also receive a gift from the Pink Hope Lounge.
Many of the participants decorated their cars for the parade.
Since its start in 1994 by Lucy Giuggio Carvalho, Rays of Hope, the most successful fund-raising walk and run in Western Massachusetts for breast cancer, has grown from 500 participants raising $50,000 to over 20,000 runners and walkers raising a to-date total of $15.4 million.
All monies raised remain local and administered by the Baystate Health Foundation to assist patients and their families affected by breast cancer. Funds support the Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research, as well as treatment, breast health programs, and the purchase of state-of-the art equipment through the Baystate Health Breast Network.
