Aura Day Spa to bring self-care options to Ludlow this September

Date: 7/6/2022

LUDLOW – This September, Ludlow residents can look forward to the opening of Aura Day Spa, a new spa coming to Ludlow that offers a variety of services in the vein of self-care.

The mother-daughter duo of Kristen and Hayley Procon, who already own Common Grounds Café of Wilbraham, said a spa is something they always wanted to open.

“We’re very into self-care, we knew we didn’t want to go to school for it – I just graduated college last year, I got my degree and didn’t want to go back to another school and she’s the one who got me into a spa and taking care of myself, so we just started looking around and everything kind of fell into place,” Hayley said.

Hayley added that as they will own the spa and not provide the actual services, she does not need to go back to school and is excited for the opportunity to run the spa.

“We love that whole industry without actually having to be the service worker,” she said.

Hayley detailed some of the services spa goers can expect once it opens.

“It’ll be a full day spa so facials, waxing, massages, nails and we’ll have an infrared sauna. Anything we can add in the future we are open to it all,” she said.

Kristen said the plan to open in Ludlow was not the duo’s initial plan for the spa location.

“Originally, we had the idea of a spa in Wilbraham, and it was going to be a new development and I think it just got delayed and we came across the building in Ludlow. We reached out and everything fell into place with it, the owners are great and have been working with us to help create the vision we have,” she said. “I live in Ludlow, so it was an easy choice.”

Looking at an early September opening date, Kristen said preparations are in full swing.

“We’ll be launching the website in a few weeks; we did the build out of how we wanted the space set up between the flooring and the paint colors, we are still working on the actual service menu and pricing. We are really trying to stay relevant on social media and build up some hype,” she said.

While some of the spa’s positions have already been filled, Kristen said they are still looking for a massage therapist.

Hayley said she is looking forward to bringing a new type of business to Ludlow with a full day spa.

“I think we’re just really excited to bring something that Ludlow doesn’t have, there’s hair, there are places for skin and nails in Ludlow but there’s nothing that’s a high-end, resort-style, self-care place. We definitely want to gear towards a one-stop shop where you walk in and get the spa experience,” she said.

She added that she is hoping to model the high-end spa model after places like Longmeadow and South Hadley.

By opening a day spa, Kristen said she is hoping people get more involved in self-care.

“Some people tend to come at it as a special once in a while thing, but I think it’s important for your physical health and mental health, if you can take the day and sit in the sauna for half an hour and there’s lots of benefits to that, or by taking care of your skin by getting a facial,” she said.

Kristen added that she was excited to open a new business in Ludlow.

“I think there’s a lot of potential in Ludlow business-wise, especially as of late a lot of female-owned business have been popping up and we want to support that as well,” she said.
