LUDLOW – After an appearance on NBC’s “New Amsterdam,” Ludlow resident and actor Tammy Twotone discussed her career and highlights from her day on set filming for the show.
Twotone said she has been interested in performing since she was a child.
“I was into acting and performing when I was a kid, so I have had the bug ever since I was a kid. I followed it up with learning a lot about theater at Stage West when they were still in West Springfield, from there I went to college and also got into standup,” she said.
Currently, Twotone said she is focused on auditioning for her next potential role.
“Right now, things are kind of at a standstill with all the COVID [-19]. I am basically doing a lot of auditioning for future roles and my standup show twist has been on hiatus because of this,” she said.
In terms of her standup work, Twotone said the humor is all over the place.
“It is a mixed bag I was the host and producer of ‘Twist,’ and we would bring on every kind of comedian you could think of, it went from clean to as dirty as it can get,” she said.
Twotone said her favorite memory during her acting career is working with Leonard Nimoy.
“My number one favorite memory is working with Leonard Nimoy, that is the most amazing thing, and nothing has beat that. He did a multimedia project called ‘Secret Selves,’ it was filmed up in Northampton and it basically was talking about revealing a part of yourself nobody knows. I danced and modeled for him and interviewed with him for about 15 minutes, that was quite the experience,” she said.
Twotone added the project was made into a book along with a DVD showing the behind-the-scenes work.
For one of her more recent projects, Twotone said she appeared on an episode of the NBC show, “New Amsterdam.”
“I got a call from one of the casting directors I work with who thought I would be right for a small part on the show ‘New Amsterdam,’ so I went and did the audition, got the part, went and did everything I had to do and spent the day with Jocko Sims and Francis Turner and that was amazing,” she said.
She said her experience on the set was fun and full of antics from the crew and actors including Sims trying to make her break character during a scene.
“I think we shot for an hour and a half, they are both very sweet and very wonderful and of course very good looking. They were fun, there were scenes where they shoot from several different directions and during some of the scenes, they were shooting at me and not him and I was delivering my lines, he was trying to get me to crack up, but I did not crack. It was an amazing day,” she said.
Along with “New Amsterdam” Twotone said she has made appearances on shows including “Orange is the New Black,” “GLEE” and “Sneaky Pete.”
“It is an amazing thing on one hand because you are in New York, and other than Los Angeles, that is the heart of entertainment in the country – if not the world. I get to work on a lot of different shows and with a lot of interesting people. Every day I do something that is amazing that will make me happy for the rest of my life and then something new comes along,” she said.
Twotone said she hopes people follow their dreams because many of the people working on the shows come from similar areas.
“What a lot of people do not realize is a lot of people you see on these shows or behind the scenes on the show – the director for this episode went to college in Massachusetts. I have met actors, producers, directors and writers, they are from all over the world and many of them are from the Northeast,” she said. “Do not think that it is not possible, because the possibility is going on every single day. People would be amazed if they knew everybody they are watching on TV are just like them.”
