LUDLOW – The Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club have two events coming up. “Day for Kids” on Sept. 17 in the back fields of the Club from 1- 4 p.m. and “Wishing Upon the Stars” on Sept. 24 at the Polish American Citizens Club on 355 East St. from 6-10 p.m.
The Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club is one dual-functioning organization. The public can register for memberships to the Community Center, which is open to all ages. It also provides athletic programming which does not require membership for participation. The Boys & Girls Club hosts a year-round licensed pre-school program as well as school-age programming with licensed before- and after-school programs and the Summer Fun program.
Day for Kids is an annual event that is overseen by the Boys & Girls Club of America. They pick the day in which all clubs are encouraged to host events that celebrate children and adults coming together to spend some meaningful time enjoying the club’s resources through play and fun.
Jodie Lambeau, director of Health, Wellness and Community Impact said, “It’s meant to be a block party type of event for families. We are hoping to have children of all ages there from youth up until high school.”
It’s a free event, donations are welcome. Sponsored by Ludlow CARES Coalition, Ludlow Cultural Council and Teddy Bear Pools & Spas. There will be crafts, face painting, yard games, bounce obstacles, sidewalk chalk, splash pad, Mr. Whippey Ice Cream, prizes and giveaways.
Wishing Upon the Stars is a fundraising event; a collaboration between CEO President Mechilia Salazar and Lead Development & Relationship Coordinator Cristina Jardine. This event is more targeted towards the adults in the community. Proceeds from that night will enrich services and grant wishes that have been made by Ludlow boys and girls who are active in the club. There will be a live auction as well as a silent auction.
“This is meant to be a unique experience,” Lambeau explained. “Something that we haven’t quite done before. We have a bunch of different sponsors within the community. We’ll be hosting a dinner, there’ll be dancing and then they’ll be raffles as well as the auction.”
The club has sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and a donation link that will give a PDF on how to send in your donations if you’re unable to attend. Tickets and tables are available online on their website at ludlowbgc.org. Tickets are $65 each and a table of eight is $500. For information, call Jardine at 583-2072 ext.103.
“These two events are different,” Lambeau said. “Day for Kids is focused on bringing our families together. We’re giving them a place to interact with their children and peers and be able to see what the club has to offer for our youth.”
She went on to say, “Wishing Upon the Stars is our fundraising. Our support from the community is what makes this able to put on these events. It provides the resources and the means for reaching out to everybody in this community.”
