LUDLOW – On Nov. 1, Ludlow Nutrition Spot relaunched under new ownership with a goal to expand on its menu of energy drinks and meal replacement shakes and potentially add a new fitness studio alongside the location.
New owner Yashira Soto-Perez said she took over the business after receiving an offer from the previous owner, Jackie Vermette.
“I have had Boss Lady Fit in Springfield for about five years now and my goal was always to expand what I do there to other cities. I was reached out to by Jackie through a mutual friend offering me the opportunity to take over the Ludlow location,” she said. “At first I was nervous because I did not know how I was going to juggle both businesses, but I took a leap of faith.”
So far, Soto-Perez said the biggest draw seems to be the energy drinks.
“We offer smoothies, energy drinks and our weight loss shakes. They are a meal replacement shake; they are gluten free and they are all made with water while the energy drinks are already the hit here. A lot of the teachers and guidance counselors come in here for their energy drinks,” she said.
Soto-Perez said the shakes do not include any dairy unless a customer would like to add whipped cream to the top.
Soto-Perez said the plan is to build upon the existing menu with some fun additions.
“We have a regular menu and then we try to come up with a shake and tea of the day. Everything that the prior owner had on the menu we are keeping and then we are adding new stuff, like we added the new cannoli shake this week,” she said.
One of the most popular drinks, the “Captain America” has blue raspberry and grape flavors and a pomegranate base.
Many of Ludlow Nutrition Spot’s drinks fit a variety of dietary needs.
“We offer drinks for all kinds of dietary needs and the energy drinks are also keto friendly because they keep up with a number and they are under three carbs so they can qualify to drink it. That is why my brother drinks the tea, and his girlfriend drinks the shake,” Soto-Perez said.
Soto-Perez said she hopes the store becomes a place for children to visit after school.
“The prior owner mentioned to me a lot of the kids come after school. I have not seen a lot of that happen, but a lot of the kids used to come after school and do their homework,” she said. “My goal is to create a community for the kids after school, which is why I am keeping it open until 6 p.m. so they can come and do homework, we want the kids to have a safe place to come after school.”
In the future, Soto-Perez said she hopes she can add a fitness center in conjunction with the current location.
“My other goal is to add more fitness into this community, so like a fitness studio to go along with this location. It is okay to work out a lot, but you need to give your body the right vitamins and nutrients,” she said.
Ludlow Nutrition Spot is open every day and is located at 194 East St.
