LUDLOW – The community is rallying around Ludlow High School boys soccer coach Greg Kolodziey, who suffered what has been described as a major heart attack on Dec. 1.
Kolodziey has been with the soccer program for over three decades and head coach for over 10 years.
He has multiple accomplishments under his belt already, including coach of the year and multiple state and Western Massachusetts championships.
He has positioned the Ludlow High School boys’ soccer team to be considered a top team in the state every year and has gained a huge amount of community support since his tenure began.
Residents are expressing on social media and in the community that they want to see Kolodziey make a full and speedy recovery because of the long road ahead after suffering a heart attack.
Ludlow community members are showing support for him in many ways.
On Dec. 6, Kolodziey’s sister Carolyn Kolodziey-Parker posted on the Ludlow Community Forum on Facebook and said, “Greg is out of surgery, and all went well. They accomplished what they needed to do with no complications. I truly believe all the messages we read to him and everyone praying made him fight … he knows how much he’s loved and knows he has more championships to win.”
The post was flooded with over 400 likes and 100 more comments sending their prayers and offering whatever help they can.
Select Board Chair Tony Goncalves said, “If there is anything the community needs to put together for him, whether it be blood, bone marrow, or anything of that nature, I’ll be more than happy to run a drive.”
EL Nutrition also honored Kolodziey by having community members come to the store to purchase and take a picture with their Lion’s Tea.
EL Nutrition owner Crystal Jimenez added that all the pictures will be used to make a huge collage for him.
Jimenez said, “I thought how amazing it would be if we put a collage together for him when he wakes up. It will show him all the support and love the community has for him. We also have a note box. Anyone can come in, write him a note and leave it in the box. He isn’t awake but he can hear, so these letters will also show all the love he is getting.”
Jimenez added that the turnout has been great to see and is excited to put the collage together.
Jimenez added that Kolodziey’s niece works for EL Nutrition and had told her that “all the prayers and support is helping him get through this.”
