Ludlow Senior Center expands hours with addition of Tuesday evenings

Date: 3/29/2023

LUDLOW — The Ludlow Senior Center hours will be extended on Tuesday evenings until 7 p.m.

According to Senior Center Director Jodi Zepke, the evening hours were instituted to accommodate people who may be working and cannot visit the center during the day.

“Many of our older adults visit us during the day because we do offer so much programming and activities. We just want those that are still working to know that we are here and available at least one night a week to help with any questions or concerns,” Zepke said.

For those older adults who may have jobs or other obligations during the day, Zepke wants everyone to have a chance to visit the Senior Center and enjoy the numerous activities.

“We plan to offer more evening programs and we are inviting people to let us know what they would like to see offered,” said Zepke. “Everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy the center.”

Zepke invites older adults to work out in the fitness room, play pool, work on arts and crafts projects and watch free movies.

She said that the Senior Center has also added trivia and usually has a presentation on travel.

“We are always looking for recommendations as well,” Zepke said.

She added that the center sees approximately 400 people a day and would need to add staff to help if more evening hours are instituted.

“We offer so much during the day, it is difficult to come up with stuff for the evenings plus we have very limited staff in the evening,” Zepke said.

Every other weekday the center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. but that can change in the future depending on the popularity of the, according to Zepke.

She said, “If Tuesdays begin to get busy, we may add another evening. So many people already enjoy the center. We are packed daily. Evening hours are offered for those that are working, babysitting or just want to get out of the house.”

Transportation is also available until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and the van travels anywhere in town but a 24-hour notice is required.

Senior centers exist to help aging adults enjoy the company of their peers and participate in activities that are healthy, engaging and fun and Zepke understands how important that can be.

Zepke said, “Just come here and see how important a Senior Center can be for older adults. We are jammed packed every day. It is socialization, friendship, information referral, nutrition, transportation and more.”
