LUDLOW– This summer Ludlow High School will be the site for Tasty Tuesdays, a new food truck and vendor event running nine Tuesdays throughout the summer beginning on June 21.
Adelei Bernard, the Class of 2024’s advisor and high school family consumer science teacher, said the idea for the event came through brainstorming with high school trainer Ashley Mourao and Lisa Roy, the other Class of 2024 advisor.
“We have been talking about a while now, we’ve just been running ideas, we do a golf tournament, we do a fun run, we did a pancake breakfast, so we were just looking for some new idea for a fundraiser and we liked this idea because we thought it would be very good for the community to come together, especially coming off of COVID [-19], where we haven’t been able to do things,” she said.
Bernard added that as far as she is aware this is the first time a food truck series has been hosted at the high school.
Event goers can look forward to different vendors each week.
“We have quite a few, our first one is on [June] 21 we have Macken’s Sliders, we have Chompers and Batch Ice Cream,” Bernard said. “The second day we have Cousins Lobsters, we have No Coast Kitchen, which is like street tacos and quesadillas, we have Batch Ice Cream again that week; it’s a combination of different stuff.”
Macken’s Sliders will be at the most Tasty Tuesdays, appearing at four throughout the summer.
At each event, one of the high school sports teams will also be raising money for their team.
“We also put it out there to our sports teams, so every week there is going to be a sports team trying to raise money for their booster club. The first one we have is cheerleading, the second one is tennis, then we have football, soccer, basketball and the ski team so, they’re allowed to set up a booth at each one,” she said.
Bernard said other community members will also be present throughout the summer.
“We also have some of the banks are going to pop by and local community people, our Ludlow CARES is going to come and the 250th Anniversary Committee are going to set up, have some things for sale and pass out information as well,” she said.
Bernard added that she hopes to see a good turnout this summer.
“I hope that everybody comes, and we can kind of have a fun bonding time hopefully and of course have a no cook Tuesday so you can come get some food,” she said.
All funds raised from fees to the trucks and vendors will go directly to the Class of 2024 and athletics in town.
“We did a set fee for trucks and per vendor, so we have craft vendors coming in as well. That money will go to the LDAA, which is the Lion’s Den Athletics Association and then it also goes toward the Class of 2024,” she said. “Our classes set up some games for kids too, I think we’re going to do glitter tattoos, stuff like that.”
Bernard added that there will also be music alongside the games and activities, at press time she said she had not solidified any live performances.
“There’s a ton of space, we’re having it in the front parking lot and we’re putting parking in the back so there will be plenty of space if craft tables want to set up and they can contact us,” she said.
Any interested vendors can reach out to Bernard via email at a_bernard@ludlowps.org.
Bernard said she is hoping Tasty Tuesdays becomes an annual staple in Ludlow.
“We’re trying to raise funds for our school, but I think the thing I am looking forward to the most is seeing everyone together and having the community come together, it’s something we’ve missed out on a lot and I’m hoping more people get involved,” she said.
Tasty Tuesdays runs from 4 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday this summer at Ludlow High School with the exception of July 5, more information and specific vendor dates can be found online at https://sites.google.com/ludlowps.org/ludlowtastytuesdays/home.
