LUDLOW- With Veterans Day approaching, Vanished Valley Brewing will host a free pig roast for veterans in the area on Nov. 6.
Director of Veterans Services Eric Segundo said the pig roast will be open to all veterans, not just Ludlow residents, and will start at 1 p.m. with Valley Classic Hits 97.7 providing music.
Segundo said he initially spoke with Vanished Valley Brewing about hosting a pig roast prior to the coronavirus pandemic, before that conversation was put on hold.
“They have wanted to do this for several years now and we were unable to with the size requirements and the number of people. It put everything on hold but they came back and said, ‘We have to do it this year,’ and I agreed,” he said.
He added the event is open to veterans and their families and there will also be burgers and hot dogs on top of the pig roast.
To commemorate the pig roast, Segundo said Vanished Valley will be making a special brew for the veterans.
“They are brewing a special brew just for the veterans that week, and Nov. 6 is the kickoff for that brew and all the proceeds from that brew will be donated to the VFW here in Ludlow,” he said.
While the event is primarily for veteran appreciation, Segundo said both Veteran’s Affairs and the Vets Center will be there to provide information for their services as well.
“It is more of a veteran appreciation event where they can come on out, grab a beer, enjoy the meal, and enjoy some comradery with your fellow veterans. There will be some services there if a veteran needs any information on Veterans’ Services,” he said.
Segundo added that he is hoping for a good turnout at the event.
“They are putting a lot of effort into the pig roast and the food, it’s a free event so we hope people come on down and have a free meal.”
While signups are not required, Segundo said anyone interested in going can respond to the event on Facebook through VFW Post 3236.
“It would be great if they could respond to that so we can try to get a head count, but it is hard to get a head count for a free event,” he said.
“It is a great feeling to be able to do something for our veterans who have given so much for us and our freedoms,” Segundo said. “It is just a way for us to say thank you.”
