MONSON — The Monson Free Library will be hosting its fifth annual Party on the Patio on Friday, Aug. 25 from 4:30-9 p.m.
Library Director Hope Bodwell said, “It is our gift to the community to celebrate the end of the summer. Our board of directors and library corporators are essential in organizing this event. I also want to thank the First Church of Monson because that’s where we park everybody, so they’ve always been very kind to us.”
She continued, “It’s just the library opening up their parking lot and saying let’s have a good time and celebrate the end of the summer. It’s always been a hit since the first time we started it.”
The Beer Guy will be back with his 14 taps and beverages that are non-alcoholic. North Elm Butcher Block out of Westfield will be smoking up barbeque favorites, local band, the Willies will be performing and there’ll be raffles. The library corporators organize all the raffles, baskets and gift cards donated by them and local businesses with proceeds to benefit the library.
The Monson Free Library expanded their parking lot, and they did so with plans to also build an outdoor patio for anyone to enjoy. A year after the library completed the parking lot expansion, they put in the patio and decided to have a party.
“It’s always been well attended and people enjoy being outside, socializing, eating and listening to music while having some beverages,” Bodwell said. “It’s a nice community event. It’s not too big or too overwhelming; you can come out on a Friday night with family and friends.”
She went on to say, “I like to stand back and just see all of our Monson community come together to have a nice casual friendly experience. We get a lot of great feedback. People are always looking forward to it and always asking when the patio party is, so it’s really been a terrific event for us.”
