NORTHAMPTON – A new cycle of tango classes will be available in Northampton for all levels of experience beginning on Dec. 1.
The classes will be spearheaded by Laura Grandi, a longtime teacher and tango dancer from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Grandi, who just officially settled into Northampton a couple weeks ago, will be leading tango meetings every Thursday at First Churches Northampton from 7 to 8 p.m. for beginners and from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. for intermediate and advanced dancers. Students will also have an additional half hour after each class to practice if they wish. The price for each class is $20, and $30 for both classes.
“The idea is anyone can come out,” said Grandi, who has been performing tango since her first steps in 1997.
From that point on, Grandi has trained with different masters in Buenos Aires in tango and other expressions of dance. Throughout her career, she has traveled both internationally and nationally giving presentations and showcasing exhibitions. She also has experience teaching in tango schools and milongas-which are venues where Argentine dance is performed.
Aside from the group classes, private classes are also available to people who would like to learn more about Pilates and physical conditioning in relation to tango dancing.
In addition to the classes, the Western Mass. Tango group conducts a social dance on the third Sunday of each month from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at First Churches. This is open to all levels and everyone is welcome to join the group.
