Southwick Public Library seeks recipes for ‘Holidays from a Distance’ cookbook

Date: 11/17/2020

SOUTHWICK – With its annual cookie swap canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Southwick Public library is collecting recipes to put together a holiday cookbook.

Lynn Blair, the Southwick Public Library’s director, said the idea for the cookbook came from the fact that they had to cancel the annual cookie swap.

“The cookie swap is an annual thing we usually do in December and it’s going to be missed this year. I feel so bad we are not able to do the cookie swap because it is something a lot of people look forward to every year.”

Blair said the “Holidays from a Distance” cookbook will be done as part of the library’s cookbook club that meets virtually every month.

“Our cookbook club is one of our most popular programs. People love it. We have such a strong group of people that come every month. We’ve been doing it online and people make the recipes at home and we talk about them,” she said.

Anyone interested in submitting a recipe for the cookbook can do so by emailing it in to southwicklibrary@comcast.net by Nov. 23.

“When people write in, they have the option to keep their name attached to it or they can remain anonymous. They can also just let me know if they want a copy too. We’ll provide a copy to everyone who wants one,” she said.

The cookbook will be free, and Blair said it should be printed by Dec. 1.

“We want to collect a number of people’s favorite recipes, put together a cookbook, and then I’m hoping around Dec. 1 I will have copies ready for everybody to pick up,” she said.

Along with Southwick residents, Blair said she also reached out to other residents in the area to contribute.

“I’ve invited all of our Cookbook Club members, residents of Southwick and surrounding towns. I sent it to the Agawam Library and Blandford Library since they also have cookbook clubs as well,” she said

To help everyone cope with the current circumstances, Blair said she hopes the cookbook spreads a little joy for participants.

“I’m hoping to spread a little bit of something nice this holiday season because it has been a hard year and it will probably be a hard holiday season for people. Any way we can spread something cheerful helps,” she said.
