As usual, I’ve got questions and seeking answersDate: 3/14/2022 As I got older, I once assumed I would understand more about life, but I believe the opposite is the truth.
There are many questions I have. Luckily it is part of my job to ask questions and hopefully get some answers.
The fact my grasp on changing technology is far from firm creates questions every day. I have stopped attempting to hide my ignorance from my staff and I think they have a good giggle when I ask a question about the latest button to push or app to install. There are many other questions as well.
• So, since the commonwealth has known for years of the unsafe environment at the Roderick Ireland Courthouse in Springfield, can it be assumed that trial court officials just don’t give a damn? Do you think that any of the people who are running for their party’s nomination for governor gives a fig about this issue? Yes, local legislators have been talking about this situation, but it doesn’t look like the state government sees this as a priority.
Be aware that courthouse is one of the busiest in the state and thousands of people go in and out of that building.
• How many times am I supposed to use the same razor blade? Now, my dad taught me many, many things, but with the whole shaving thing, he left me pretty much to my own devices. I have never quite figured out when to change the blade and do so when it’s clear the scraping action is replacing the cutting action. A bloody face may mean a switch to a fresh razor and yes, I’m 67 and have been mangling my face for decades. That’s why I grew a full beard and wore it for many years.
• Do you think that people who are serving a city by sitting on a board with real power should be doing business with that city? Springfield has an issue with one of the members of the newly formed Board of Police Commissioners bidding on a city contract. Even if it is allowed by law, such a transaction doesn’t look too good.
• Why in the name of all that is holy is there a new edition of the Kardashian reality show? Isn’t that so last decade? Why are any of these people of interest any longer? I don’t get it. Do we love the trite and the vapid that much?
• According to the State House News Service, the state Senate has passed its bill that would reform the oversight of the two state Soldiers’ Homes. Now, the path is to the conference committee to reconcile it with the House version..
Michael Norton of the State House News Service reported that among the items in the Senate bill are “require the Department of Public Health to regularly inspect the homes and make its reports publicly available. Require each home to have a full-time specialist in infection control and emergency preparedness. Set procedures for filling vacant positions at the homes, including posting job openings in a timely fashion, and ensuring that an employee is available to temporarily be tasked with any unfulfilled emergency duties while a position is vacant.”
Do you mean to tell me these things weren’t being done before? That’s amazingly irresponsible.
• Why is it I get not one but at least two emails Monday through Friday from Sen. Elizabeth Warren? Surely her young staff should know how to send an email. I only look at them if the words “media advisory” are present, which would indicate she is planning a rare visit to Massachusetts.
To be fair, I also get multiple emails daily from the Massachusetts Republican Party and from former President Trump. Folks, sending me multiple copies of the same stuff will not motivate me to open or read them. Why do your staffs do that? At least no trees are being used to send out these messages, as they would have been years ago.
Okay, I’ll stop here. I have many more questions, but they will have to wait.
