Question: How exciting was it to take part in an NHL training camp? McDonald: It was great, to see the history in Edmonton and to wear that Oilers jersey during training camp was special. I found myself looking around at the history on the walls in the locker room and there is no question it's very special to be a member of the Oilers organization and start my pro career in Springfield. Question: How challenging was rookie camp in Edmonton back Labor Day Weekend? McDonald: We worked hard and there was a lot of skating and up-temp practices. It was a great experience, learned a lot and hopefully we can carry that over into the regular season with the Falcons. Question: Your dad, Gerry McDoanld, played for the Hartford Whalers, how has that helped with your adjustment to the pro game? McDonald: It always helps having someone that can give you advice as to what to expect as a pro. I grew up not far from Springfield down in Hartford and it's exciting to be back in the area. I know about the history of hockey in Springfield and actually grew up going to some Wolf Pack and New Haven Nighthawk games, so it's a great area for hockey. My dad has always been great and there is no question he has been helpful in my career. Question: How was your experience with the Junior Coyotes/Falcons? McDonald: It was great, the coaches there were great and I learned a lot about the game playing for them. It's nice to be not that far from their home rink down in Enfield, CT and my experience with the Junior Coyotes/Falcons really helped me transition to the college game Question: How did you enjoy playing hockey at Providence College? McDonald: Another great experience, had a lot of fun and made some great friends. Hockey is always fun for me, so overall I enjoyed my time with Providence, but I am a pro now and just trying to earn a roster spot with the Falcons. |
