Bay Path Festival Choir kicks off holiday seasonDate: 11/15/2010 Novv. 15, 2010
LONGMEADOW With Thanksgiving just two weeks away, the holiday season has arrived. To celebrate, the Bay Path College Festival Choir will give local residents a preview performance of the singers' upcoming tour of Munich, Germany and Salzburg, Austria. The Choir will delight audiences with a selection of holiday music at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 519 Longmeadow St.
The local presentation primes the Festival Choir for their weeklong series of performances in Munich, Germany and Salzburg, Austria later this month. Organized by Li Ciaglo, director of performing arts at Bay Path, and led by Festival Choir Director Scott Bailey, the group will embark on the overseas trip on Nov. 21 and return to Bay Path on Nov. 28. In addition to the Festival Choir, the Longmeadow performance features Bay Path's Page Singers, the college's select choir directed by Michael Rheault.
The Festival Choir is a combination of students from Bay Path and Westfield State University. Both Bay Path and Westfield offer multiple opportunities for singers of all skill levels. Bay Path offers two choirs for students the Bay Path Chorale and the Page Singers, named for longtime associate professor of music Charles E. Page. Chorale is open to all Bay Path students, regardless of musical background, who wish to sing in a choir.
The Page Singers is a group of auditioned singers, and provides students with previous musical experience an opportunity to work on more challenging repertoire. The Page Singers and Chorale appear frequently at annual concerts and on-campus functions, including admissions events for incoming, first-year students, Winterfest and Performing Arts concerts. The choirs have performed internationally in Vienna and Prague. Similarly, Westfield offers two choirs for students the Festival Chorus and College Chorale. The Festival Chorus is comprised of both student and community singers of all skill levels, while the College Chorale is made up of auditioned student singers, performing more challenging music. Bay Path's and Westfield's choral groups specialize in performing diverse and eclectic musical compositions from a wide range of musical genres, including pop, jazz, classical, and contemporary.
