WESTERN MASS. – Are you ready? After a whirlwind offseason which mirrored Major League Baseball’s trade deadline, the NFL season is nearly upon us.
Tom Brady retired and came back. Gronk retired due to a bad back and a plethora of injuries incurred over his career (That’s only partially true). The NFL and National Football League Players’ Association finally reached a settlement for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson resulting in an 11-game suspension and $5 million for sexual assault allegations. Atlanta star wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for betting on games amidst a culture where legal gambling and fantasy football continues to grow nationwide. Star wide receivers Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill changed teams with Adams leaving Green Bay for Las Vegas and Hill going from Kansas City to Miami. Quarterback Russell Wilson fled Seattle for Denver. He now faces his old team in Week 1.
Reports from Patriots camp have been mostly poor this summer. Will they survive a Week 1 trip to Miami against the Dolphins, a team that has often given New England problems?
It is time to put your skills to the test.
Play “Beat The Putz” every week of the NFL season for your chance to win several prizes, courtesy of Reminder Publishing and their sponsors. Log on to beattheputz.com, make your picks, and follow the action Sundays all season long.
The top winner every week who beats The 100 Westfield News Sports Editor Chris Putz will receive a $25 gift card to A.W. Brown’s and be eligible for our grand prize drawing. At the end of the season, three weekly winners will be chosen at random. Up for grabs this season – a grill from Manny’s (approximate value: $500), a $250 gift card to Michael Szwed Jewelers and a $100 gift card to Delaney House.
Any weekly ties among entrants will be broken by tiebreaker with the entrant closest to the total points from the Sunday night game deemed the winner. If a tie still exists, a random drawing will be used to determine the sole weekly winner.
The deadline for submissions – online only – is every Saturday at 11:59 p.m., except for late in the season when the schedule shifts to Saturdays.
Chris Putz’s picks will be revealed on the Reminder Publishing Facebook page and The Westfield News Facebook page prior to kickoff every week.
Thank you for playing, and good luck!
