Best Damn Sandwich: Montgomery Grille’s delicious BLTDate: 5/23/2022 MONTGOMERY – There’s something about the combination of bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on toasted bread that to me are the components of a perfectly satisfying sandwich. So when I decided to purchase my entry for best damn sandwich at the Montgomery Grille inside the Montgomery Marketplace, 46 Main Rd. in Montgomery, I didn’t hesitate to order a BLT.
Visiting the Montgomery Grille, which is open Wednesday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and serves breakfast and lunch, is always a good choice, Moderately priced, many locals frequent the establishment, which offers an invitation that reads: “We always strive to give you good food with good service at a good price, so come on in and have a seat and meet your friends from down the street.” I saw three friends immediately, one of whom I hadn’t seen in 20 years.
The bacon on the sandwich itself, which admittedly is the featured item, was perfectly crisp – not undercooked and not overcooked – and the sandwich did not disappoint. I will make a point of ordering it again over the summer when tomatoes are fresh from the garden. That is the best time of year for sandwiches.
Although I chose a somewhat simple staple, the Montgomery Grille also offers hot dogs and hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, wraps, salads, burritos, enchiladas, tacos and quesadillas, plus a full breakfast menu. Sandwiches come with chips or pay $1 extra for fries.
While waiting for your order, across the hall is the Gray Catbird Gift Shop, which features art and crafts from 100 different artisans that also adorns the hallway and dining room for the grille, where area musicians perform on Thursdays at 3 p.m. Donations go to the musicians, the public library and Firemen’s Association in town.
