Best Damn Sandwich: Randall’s Farm and Greenhouse week twoDate: 12/26/2018 LUDLOW – For this week’s Randall’s Farm & Greenhouse Part Two sandwich review, I will be reviewing the famous “Randall’s Club” sandwich.
As my coworker Payton North mentioned in last week’s article, I have not had much prior experience with Randall’s, which is located in Ludlow – I’m not a Massachusetts native and am still familiarizing myself with the area.
For those of you who might also not be too familiar with Randall’s, which I’m sure is a minority, Elsie and Bill Randall founded Randall’s farm over 50 years ago. It began as a season egg farm and fruit stand, and later grew into a Produce and Greenhouse business. In 1962, they built the first Retail Farm Stand, which became Elsie’s Creamery in 1998.
The operation continued to grow, including an addition of the Bakery/Deli.
Now, Randall’s Bakery/Deli offers a wide variety of bakery favorites, homemade salads, gourmet entrees and Boars Head meats and cheeses.
After Payton and I meandered around the store for a while, admiring the beautiful Christmas decorations scattered throughout the building and greenhouse, we decided we were ready to eat.
I chose to review the #1 on Randall’s Top Twelve Picks, which is the “Randall’s Club.”
Until then, I had yet to have a pleasant experience with a standard BLT – I am extremely picky. I am also not a mayonnaise lover (despite the fact that it’s considered a sandwich staple). However, I had a good feeling about this sandwich.
The Randall’s Club is comprised of ham, turkey, American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and herb mayo. I ordered it on a Kaiser roll.
The sandwich did not disappoint – this was the FIRST mayonnaise that I have ever liked on a sandwich. The added herbs gave the mayo a creamier, yogurt-like texture, while giving it a nice flavor at the same time.
The lettuce was crisp and there was plenty of ham and turkey to go around. The sandwich was also a generous size. I could only finish half of it before becoming full – making the $6.99 price worth it.
Overall, I would rate the sandwich as a top-favorite, and the atmosphere at Randall’s is always a breath of fresh air as well.
Randall’s is located at 631 Center St. in Ludlow. To reach the business over the phone, call 589–7071.
