GREATER SPRINGFELD – December is the month of bird counting in our area.
On Dec. 16, the Allen Bird Club will host the Springfield Area Christmas Count, a local effort held yearly since 1956, to document this area’s bird populations.
New counters are needed and welcome and can pair with more experienced birders if necessary. There will be a compilation and pot luck dinner for participants at 6:30 p.m. For more details on how to help and leader contact information, go to the club website at www.allenbirdclub.org and click on Field Trips/Upcoming Trips/December, Springfield Christmas Count.
On Dec. 23, the Cobble Mountain (Westfield Area) Christmas Count, which has been conducted since 2000, will take place. Again, new counters are needed and welcome. A compilation and pizza get-together will be at 4:30 p.m. Go to the club website listed above for leader contact information to get assignments.
