D&J’s Hash House brings back the car hop experienceDate: 7/27/2020 SOUTHWICK – Time and time again between my travels from Westfield to Southwick have I passed D&J’s Hash House on College Highway and until this past weekend never took a chance on it until they started advertising a car hop service – and I was not disappointed.
The new car hop service is situated right in front of the restaurant in five designated parking spaces with enough space in between for the server to get in between each car on a busier day. When I was placing my order there was just one other car using the new service, which led to a quick meal, with good service.
The service is quite simple as well, when you arrive the server places a tray on your car that attaches directly to the driver side window. Once the food is ready, she places it on the tray and then when you are finished you place the trash back on the tray and your server comes to grab it and your payment.
Before my Sunday breakfast, I had never tried a car hop service, and after trying it out it was a cool experience I am looking forward to trying again.
Whenever I go to a breakfast place, I always love to check out what they have for a breakfast bowl and I was not disappointed. Their breakfast bowl comes with your choice of bacon or sausage along with peppers, onions, home fires, scrambled eggs, hollandaise sauce and your choice of cheese.
I opted to go with bacon and American cheese but without the hollandaise sauce, which I have never been a big fan of, but the meal was filling and tasty. The mix of bacon, home fries, eggs and cheese were flavorful and stood out above the rest of the entrée.
Along with my entrée I also tried their iced coffee because I cannot go somewhere and not try their ice coffee since it essentially runs through my veins instead of blood. As always, I just got it with cream so you can still taste the coffee without all of the sugar and I was happy with the result.
Currently D&J Hash House offers takeout, car hop dining, indoor, and outdoor service. Their entire menu can be found on their Facebook page.
D&J Hash House is located at 784 College Hwy in Southwick.
