Drama Studio presents 'What Would Prudence Do?'Date: 11/25/2009 SPRINGFIELD The Drama Studio will open a new comedy "What Would Prudence Do?" on Dec. 5 in its theatre at 41 Oakland St.
Miss Prudence's School for Young Ladies is an exclusive girls' school, steeped in 200 years of tradition. Due to "financial concerns," the school is grudgingly forced to admit "students of the male gender." With the arrival of Lenny, the one and only male, the well-ordered world of Prudence explodes.
For his own survival, Lenny initiates changes that will rock the very foundations of Miss Prudence's. How will the Tea Ceremony compete with the violence of Ultimate Dodgeball? Allegiances are tested, new friendships forged, and the school discovers that everyone, deep in their hearts, wants to play dodgeball.
What makes this production especially exciting is that it was written by an ensemble of Drama Studio's own students. Last year's Intro to Scene Study class, taught by faculty member Amelia Hays-Rivest, far exceeded the curricular demands and worked together to create a full-length script. "The joy and energy that these nine talented students brought to this huge effort was incredible," said Hays-Rivest. "It has been a privilege to work with them. They have taken the Drama Studio work ethic to great heights, with their respect, the collaborative generosity of their gifts, and the ability to pull such a wonderful script from improvisation, scene writing, and love of characters."
The student playwrights are Tessa Andrekus and Rachel Mahoney of Springfield; Sara Berliner, Jameson Kapinos and Kristin Reeves of Hampden; Sara Etkin and Rachel Moore of Longmeadow; Rachel Gallagher of Chicopee; and Corina Stenning-Barnes of Wilbraham.
Joining the playwright/actors in the acting company are William Maldonado, Tristan Donohue, Hannah Ryan, Austin Yelinek, Arry Dimaio, Maya Lawrence and Danielle Lessard (Springfield); Olivia Opal and Allison Reardon (Hampden); Seth Olsen and Ellen Rosati (East Longmeadow); Peter Paleologopoulos, Dana O'Connor, Talya Wintman and Ilana Peskin (Longmeadow); Abby Dias (Wilbraham); Andrew Dasco (Monson); Emma Redman (West Springfield); and Stage Manager Brigid Sawyer of Westfield.
"What Would Prudence Do?" is recommended for ages six and over.
"What Would Prudence Do?" will play Dec. 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 6 and 13 at 6:30 p.m. A talkback session with cast and audience will follow the Dec. 13 performance.
