Exit 7 Players to host auditions for 'Into the Woods'
Date: 5/4/2009
LUDLOW - "Into the Woods" is an award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986, and premiered on Broadway in 1987.
Inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book, "The Uses of Enchantment," the musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them further to explore the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella, tied together by a more original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, most likely taken from the original story of Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm. It also includes references to several other well-known tales.
This production is designed for performers who are between the ages of five and 18 at the time of the audition. Please prepare a legitimate musical piece (i.e. musical theatre) that shows your vocal range, musicality and dramatic ability. You must bring sheet music (with full piano accompaniment) with you. An accompanist will be provided. Performing to recorded music or a capella is not recommended and you may be asked to sing something familiar with the piano.
Wear comfortable clothing as there will be a brief movement piece to the audition.
The show dates are Aug. 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 9 and 16 at 3 p.m. There will also be a special performance at Celebrate Ludlow on July 25.
Auditions for "Into the Woods" will be taking place May 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Exit 7 Theater, 37 Chestnut St., Ludlow.
