Friends of the Agawam Library announce November art showDate: 9/19/2013 AGAWAM – The Friends of the Agawam Public Library announces its fifth Open Juried Art Show Nov. 4 to 29.
There are 26 awards with cash prizes totaling $1,250. The awards are made up of three prizes in each category, Best in Show, and 10 honorable mentions. The Friends expect the art show to draw upon the many talented and upcoming artists in the area. The show benefits the Agawam Public Library and helps recognize and encourage artists.
For the 2012 4th Open Juried Art Show there were 91 paintings, from 85 artists that came from 26 towns and cities in the greater area hung in the gallery.
Massachusetts artists from Agawam, Amherst, Bernardston, Blandford, Chicopee, Deerfield, East Longmeadow, Feeding Hills, Florence, Greenfield, Hadley, Hampden, Holyoke, Longmeadow, Northampton, Russell, Shutesbury, Southwick, Springfield, West Springfield; and from Broad Brook, East Granby, Enfield, Groton, Stafford Springs, and Suffield in Connecticut participated.
Multiple entries per category of original art are allowed. The fee is $25 per entry for early-bird registration by Oct. 19. The fee becomes $30 per entry after Oct. 19. Last day to enter is Nov. 2. Oct. 19 starts a two-week period for dropping off artwork at the library during library hours (Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The drop off of artwork ends on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Judging begins that same day, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.; it is closed to the public.
Artist reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. with music and light refreshments. It is free and open to the public.
The selection and awards jurors are Robert Carsten and Steve Wilda.
The five categories are acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels, other media (pencil drawing, charcoals, pen and inks, block prints and collage, encaustics).

The artwork juried into the show will be on display in the gallery area of the Agawam Public Library, 750 Cooper St., from Nov. 4 to 29.
