SPRINGFIELD – The New England Doo Wop Society has a reason to celebrate this spring – marking 10 years and 31 shows in the region.
Gary Jones, one of the society’s founders, expects a “very large crowd” for the March 14 show at the Cedars Banquet Hall, 375 Island Pond Road.
“We are celebrating with a super anniversary show,” he said. “Two acts are from New Jersey and two acts are from New York – an all-star lineup.”
Tony Middleton and The Willows are the headliners, best known for their crossover song he wrote titled “Church Bells May Ring.” The Willows are also known for hits including “My Dear Dearest Darling,” “Dolores,” and “White Cliffs of Dover.” The group has appeared on three PBS specials on doo wop and continues to tour across the country and internationally.
Also sharing the stage will be The Tribunes, a Long Island a cappella group, The Whiptones, teenage doo wop singers, and YesterDaze, performing hits from the 50’s and 60’s.
“Come help us celebrate 10 years of doo wop rock ‘n’ roll,” Jones said.
Tickets are $35 for the show only, which starts promptly at 7:15 p.m. An optional buffet at an additional cost begins at 6:15 p.m.
A special contest is planned during the evening for the best dressed 50’s costume for both male and female.
