The Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton won the Number 3 spot among arts festivals nationwide again this year. It is the seventh time Paradise City has appeared in the "Top Ten Art Fairs in America." This is one of the most spectacular fairs of fine craft, painting and sculpture in the whole country. With 260 juried artists and craftspeople traveling from 30 states to show off their best and newest work, Paradise City's signature live music and fabulous food, a flowering sculpture garden filled with artful delights, a silent art auction to benefit the Breast Form Fund.all compelling reasons to come on down to Paradise City for the long holiday weekend.
In fashion and the arts, architecture and music, what is thought of as beautiful is often subject to the trends of the times. We called upon our artists to submit their personal interpretations of beauty in this spring's special exhibition, "The Nature of Beauty." The works in this 'show-within-a-show' encompass irony, subtlety, humor, sentimentality and elegance, and certainly illustrate the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." The exhibit, which includes functional, decorative and collectible works in all media, will be mounted at the Gazebo in the Arena Building.
Paradise City is proud to partner once again with The Breast Form Fund, which provides financial assistance, prostheses and post-mastectomy care to underinsured and uninsured women. Paradise City's Silent Art Auction raised $20,000 for this cause last time around. Take home a one-of-a-kind find and support a worthy cause at the same time.
Local hero Roger Salloom is no longer quite so local. With an award-winning documentary about his career airing nationally this spring, this energetic singer/songwriter is setting a second chance at stardom. He opens Saturday with a seven-piece band. The Gypsy Jazz Band Ameranouche makes their Paradise City debut on Sunday. Memorial Day is our own New Orleans Day, introducing Samirah Evans and her Handsome Devils. Fabulous food from cuisines around the world (and from New Orleans, if course), prepared by some of Northampton's finest chefs and restaurateurs, is served under the Festival Dining Tent.
Two hundred sixty competitively juried artists from 30 states exhibiting original works in ceramics, painting, decorative fiber, art glass, fine furniture, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, photography, large-scale sculpture, wearable art and wood.
All indoors and under tents, rain or shine in Three County Fairgrounds in Northampton May 28, 29, and 30; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission: adults $12, seniors $10, students $8, three-day pass $15, 12 and younger free. Free parking. Group discounts available. Free full color program with admission.
