Springfield’s Court Square to play host to Jazz & Roots Festival Aug. 9Date: 7/23/2014 SPRINGFIELD – Downtown Springfield will be the location of the free Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival on Aug. 9 in Court Square.
Blues to Green, a nonprofit organization using music and art to celebrate community and culture, build shared purpose, and catalyze social and environmental change, working in partnership with the City of Springfield and the Springfield Business Improvement District is presenting the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival.
The purpose of the festival is to celebrate the emergence of Springfield’s Cultural District, and promote an arts-driven, community oriented, and sustainable revitalization of the city. The festival is partnering with these community organizations: The Performance Project, Bing Arts Center, and Community Music School.
Attendees can also enjoy theater, art, dance, poetry and community at The Performance Project Tent and music workshops at the Springfield Community Music School including Grace Kelly at noon and Charmaine Neville at 2 p.m.
This event will present a festive atmosphere featuring locally and internationally acclaimed musical artists including Phil Woods with special guest with the Greg Caputo Big Band, Charles Neville with the Charmaine Neville Band, Grace Kelly, Alex Snydman Trio, Chuchito Valdes Quartet, Jessica Freeman, Argiro Quintet, and Mikata.
There will also be a variety of ethnic cuisines and local food producers, and more.
This inclusive event is a unique opportunity to promote Springfield as western Massachusetts’ largest urban center and a sought out artistic/cultural destination. The festival aims to bring people from Springfield and the surrounding region together to foster connection, stimulate the local economy, and highlight positive initiatives contributing to the betterment of Springfield’s residents and uniting the city with the rest of the Pioneer Valley.
The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. This free outdoor festival allows all to share in a significant arts and culture event in the heart of downtown Springfield. Don’t miss the Opening Party at the Bing Arts Center, located on Sumner Avenue, on Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. with Jeremy Turgeon & Bonded.
