Springfield's first and only Latina theater welcomes guest artist Fred HoDate: 5/5/2009 After his recent success at Carnegie Hall, Fred Ho is presenting from his latest book, "Wicked Theory, Naked Practice," as a fundraiser for Teatro V!da in Holyoke. He is one-of-a kind- and not to be missed. During his nearly three year battle with late stage cancer, Ho continues to emerge triumphant.
"[Ho] achieves his cross-cultural goals with skill, grace and humor. The music merges Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus with Chinese instruments and vocal styles from Western opera, Chinese opera and jazz; for a fusion that never seems forced. Mr. Ho's act of East-West fusion has an audacious integrity," Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote.
Ho is a world renowned artist who has influenced multiple generations of musicians, composers and artists in every imaginable field. Ho's explosive and revolutionary compositions inspire and ignite the listener to enter deeper realms of thought, feelings and creative expression. Everyone who comes in contact with Ho either personally, professionally or through the genius of his art, is indelibly transformed and moved to be the best of who they are he will make you shake, rattle and roll and most importantly, he will make you see the world and your life in ways you never have before.
Ho will discuss and sign his latest book, "Wicked Theory, Naked Practice," an autobiography, at the Holyoke Barnes & Noble on May 8 at 6 p.m. as part of a fundraising book fair for Teatro V!da taking place May 8 and 9. This event is historical and not to be missed! Ho is one of Teatro V!da's greatest supporters and inspirations.

On May 9, Maria Luisa Arroyo will be performing excerpts from her new, inspiring bilingual poetry book, "Gathering Words/Recogiendo Palabras."
