The Cedars to host Doo Wop Society showDate: 10/2/2014 SPRINGFIELD – Bob Belniak and Gary Jones are “passionate” when selecting musical acts for the New England Doo Wop Society.
“This music is in our blood,” said Belniak during a recent interview with Reminder Publications.
Belniak and Jones are co-founders of the society, which features several shows throughout the year at The Cedars Banquet Hall on Island Pond Road.
“I guess you can say we are passionate about what we do,” he said, adding, “and we want to put on the very best show that we can for the people.”
The Royal Teens, best known for hits including “Believe Me” and “Short Shorts,” are the headliners for the Oct. 24 show. Belniak noted that Bob Gaudio was an original member and later became a singer with the Four Seasons, writing most of their hits.
The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with Diversion, a local rock ‘n’ roll act, followed by The Dolphins, an a cappella act from New York.
“Collectively, The Dolphins have been singing for over 100 years,” he said.
“These shows are tailor made for people who don’t want to travel over an hour to the casino, and the price is a lot less, too,” Belniak said.
Jones added they bring in “top-notch performers” from across the country and the feature groups always have at least one original member in the band.
An optional buffet priced at $15 per person starts at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the show only are $35 per person.
For tickets and more information, visit www.newenglanddoowopsociety.org or call Jones at 478-0901 or Belniak at 786-1929.
Tickets will also be sold at the door.
