Back from World's Largest Cruise Ship

If the East Longmeadow Rotary seemed less daunting to pass through, or it was easier to get a bar seat at the 99, it was not your head playing tricks on you, but rather 175 locals left the area to vacation on the Cruise Store's 10th Annual "Dan and Kim Radio Show" cruise.

This year's choice was Royal Caribbean's newest and the world's largest cruise ship: The Freedom of the Seas. Regular readers recall a past column entitled "Does Size Really Matter?" which goes into more detail. (That column can be found on the Reminder's website or at cruisestore.com).

The cruise was for 7 nights departing on January 7. It had scheduled stops on the islands of Cozumel, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Royal Caribbean's private resort area called Labadee.

What a ship! We both went surfing on the ship's first of its kind "Flow Rider". Guests that brought children LOVED the dedicated areas for children and teens. These ranged from an out of this world water park, video games, cruise counselors, teen club, and so much more. Where was this when we were kids? This SO beats summer camp.

There were plenty of dining and drinking options too. With 16 bars, one can pub-crawl in style. There is an English styled pub, a Latino themed bar (great Mojitos!), wine bar, pool bars .. As for food, you really should experience Chops Grill at least once on the ship. It reminds us of Morton's Steak House and received rave reviews by our group. The main dining room offered a wide variety of tempting choices and outstanding service. And the entertainment on board was some of the best we've seen, from the ice shows to the production shows and comedians!

One hundred seventy people already booked on next year's cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas beginning January 12, 2008 out of San Juan, Puerto Rico with scheduled stops in St. Thomas; St. Maarten; St. Lucia; Antigua; and Barbados. Cruise rates start at only $699 per person (double occupancy, taxes extra). Join us!
