Applause series reveals stars of the summer skyDate: 5/2/2014 AGAWAM – The 10th season of the Agawam Cultural Council’s popular Applause Series concludes on May 9 at 7 p.m., when Richard Sanderson comes to the Agawam Public Library to give a preview of the summer’s coming celestial attractions.
Sanderson, longtime stargazer and curator of physical science at the Springfield Science Museum where he manages the Seymour Planetarium, will lead participants on an interpretive tour of the summer night sky.
Using images captured by astronomers and robotic spacecraft, he will discuss the constellations and their legends, focusing on the planets, galaxies and star clusters. He will also explain how to best view August’s Perseid meteor shower.
Sanderson has written hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles about astronomy and is co-author of the 2006 book “Illustrated Timeline of the Universe.”
The library, 750 Cooper St., can be reached by phone at 789-1550. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.agawamcc.org.
