Bright Nights wraps up 2008 season in snowDate: 12/29/2008 SPRINGFIELD There are only a few days left to enjoy the Bright Nights at Forest Park's holiday glow until next November. The 2008 season will wind down on Jan. 3, 2009, at 11 p.m. Until then, Cat in the Hat, Santa and the Snowman will be waving to all the cars that travel the 2.5-mile route that winds through Forest Park.
With significant snowfall in December, Bright Nights at Forest Park has been further enhanced. The blanket of snow enhances the winter wonderland with the lights' reflection. "Visitors say they wait for the snow," Judith A. Matt of the Spirit of Springfield said. "We've got snow."
The 14th season has already been deemed a success with an increase in traffic. It offers an affordable evening of entertainment for a carload of family and friends. Each have their favorite display, whether it is Seuss Land, Jurassic World, Winter Woods or Toy Land, where some children have said they would like to live. Others enjoy the serenity of the Garden of Peace, Victorian Village and Barney Mansion, and the majesty of the Giant Poinsettia Candles.
This week, Bright Nights will be opened nightly at 5 p.m. and will close at 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and until 11 p.m. Wednesday (New Year's Eve) through Jan. 3.
