Exit Seven Players present 'The Goodbye Girl'
The Exit Seven Players of Ludlow are proud to announce that they will be presenting the musical comedy "The Goodbye Girl" by Neil Simon with music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by David Zippel on Sept. 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. A matinee will also be presented on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. All performances will take place at the Exit Seven Theater located at 37 Chestnut St., Ludlow. The production will be directed by Dan Derby with musical direction by Nathan Newton and choreography by Todd Christopher Santa Maria.
"The Goodbye Girl" is the musical comedy based on Neil Simon's Oscar winning film about an unlikely romance between Paula, a bitter, single mother who has been dumped one too many times, and Elliot, the opinionated off-Broadway actor who shows up on her doorstep with a lease to sublet her apartment. It features that same zany humor that has made Neil Simon the most popular playwright in Broadway history. Add a score by Marvin Hamlisch, composer of "A Chorus Line," and David Zippel, lyricist of "City of Angels" and Disney's "Hercules" and "Mulan," and you have an instant contemporary classic that was nominated for five Tony awards and starred Bernadette Peters and Martin Short in his Broadway debut.
Set in contemporary New York City, this hysterical tuneful musical is a love letter to the city. It features three show stopping leads including a scene-stealing role for a 11-year-old girl wise beyond her years and a rough landlady with an attitude. You add a chorus of misfit actors, wise cracking 11-year-old girls, a Richard Simmons impersonator with dancing french fries and you have a night of theater that is bound to bring a smile to everyone's face and warm their hearts.
