Holyoke Catholic Students to stage ‘Curtain Call, Again’Date: 2/12/2015 SPRINGFIELD – The stage is set for Holyoke Catholic High School’s performing arts extravaganza – Curtain Call, Again.
Director Eva Stockhamer chose this “Broadway review style” production, which showcases everyone’s strengths.
“The show is not scripted, meaning there are musical numbers that also have dance to go along with them,” she said during an interview with Reminder Publications. “We chose music to suit the group along with some solo numbers, duets, and small groups that include an alumni performance with a few alumni of the performing arts department.”
The show will be staged at Commonwealth Academy, Ones Ames Hill Road, on Feb. 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the production will be staged March 7 and 8.
Stockhamer explained that the production contains music from Broadway shows they have staged in the past or may produce in the future.
“We chose songs based on those who auditioned, making the format different than usual for us,” she said. “When you have a show that is scripted there are certain characters with certain vocal ranges that we need to find performers for.”
This type of show gives Stockhamer and her crew the ability “to do the opposite” and show everyone’s strengths.
“It also gives us the opportunity to do some of Broadway’s old standards and some music from some of the newer shows that have been on Broadway,” she said.
The audience can anticipate musical numbers from Aladdin, Fiddler on the Roof, Wicked, The Lion King, Godspell and more.
During an intermission, a special lottery ticket raffle is planned and “possibly” a surprise raffle or snack item, according to Stockhamer.
Stockhamer not only credits the cast but also the individuals who are always by her side for each production. Those working behind the scenes on this production include Dr. Todd Rovelli, musical director; Darryl Geoffrey, who will be one of the hosts for the evening; and set design and construction team members Frank Croke, Paul Morey, Andrew Morey, Andy Boraski, Sue Crowell and John Guntly.
“We hope residents are able to attend the show to support the cast of students,” Stockhamer said. “They work very hard to put these shows up and the results are wonderful. Also, it is a great night out to hear some of the Broadway music they may already know performed by this cast.”
