Homebrew Showcase returns for second yearDate: 7/26/2018
SPRINGFIELD – For a second year, home brewers across the region will gather at Paddy’s Irish Pub to show off their beer-making skills and to raise money for a good cause.
Organizer and home brewer Chris Maza of Springfield said the number of participating brewers has increased from nine to 15 for The Second Annual Homebrew Showcase
“That’s a pretty significant jump,” he said.
The event will take place at the pub at 1060 Wilbraham Road on Aug. 4 starting at noon. Admission is $15 at the door, which includes food from Peppa’s Pizza. There will also be the Murphy’s Mobile food truck selling other food items, Maza added.
Attendees will get to sample a wide range of beers and vote for the best brews featured at the show. To make room for the increased number of brewer, Maza said the well-attended event has expanded into the pub’s patio area.
This year proceeds from the tasting will benefit All Our Kids, a regional nonprofit, which seeks to enrich community connectedness among foster/adoptive families in the region and raise awareness about the state of the foster care system in the area.
Last year’s event was very well attended and Maza recommended people considering buying an advance ticket online for $25.
“With an advance ticket, you are guaranteed entry,” he explained. Another perk is an exclusive t-shirt that will not be available the day of the show.
Maza will be bringing his own Jumping Comet beers to the competition and said all of the brewers featured are amateur.
“Some may have the goal of being professional brewers at some point,” he added.
The advance tickets will be on sale through July 30 at https://homebrew2018.itemorder.com.
