'Lumberjacks in Love' set up camp at the Majestic TheaterDate: 1/5/2009 WEST SPRINGFIELD The musical comedy "Lumberjacks in Love" will be presented by the Theater Project at West Springfield's Majestic Theater Jan. 8 through Feb. 15. The play is written by Fred Alley and James Kaplan, the same writing team behind "Guys On Ice: The Ice Fishing Musical," which enjoyed a successful run at the Majestic last winter.
Set in 1912, the story features five lumberjacks Minnesota Slim, Muskrat, Dirty Bob, Moonlight and the Kid. The group is settled at the Haywire Lumber Camp, more than two hundred miles from the nearest woman. Complications abound with the arrival of a feisty mail order bride, who is actually a writer researching a new book. Before long, the group is in for a huge shock when a closely-guarded secret is revealed.
The cast features several Theater Project veterans including Eric Love ("The Miracle Worker," "Inherit the Wind"), Van Farrier ("It's a Wonderful Life," "The Full Monty," "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"), David Mason ("It's a Wonderful Life," "Enchanted April"), Shelby Leshine ("To Kill a Mockingbird," "Inherit the Wind") and Cate Damon ("Brimstone," "Enchanted April").
Theater Project founder Danny Eaton will direct, Amy Roberts-Crawford is musical director and Brian Fournier is choreographer. Rachel Putnam is stage manager, the lighting designer is Dan Rist and Elaine Bergeron is costume designer. The band includes Roberts-Crawford, Brian Peltier and Alex Chakour.
