Pink Floyd tribute show will help benefit Food BankDate: 11/10/2008 CHICOPEE When locally-based Pink Floyd tribute band Liquid Floyd takes the stage at 9 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Chicopee's Maximum Capacity nightclub, they'll be helping to collect food for the Open Panty food bank and kick-starting the annual Mayflower Marathon pre-Thanksgiving food drive, run annually by radio station WAQY.
Calling the concert the "Dark Side of the Spoon," the band, nightclub and WAQY are working together to raise public awareness of the dire situation area food banks are currently facing.
"Food bank contributions are down significantly in this economy plus more people than ever need help this year, which is a bad combination," Steve Gallant, Liquid Floyd keyboardist, said. "We realized that the timing of our show was ideal to help WAQY to get their food collections going a little earlier than usual."
WAQY morning personality John O'Brien will make a cameo appearance onstage with the band, playing kazoo on the classic Pink Floyd hit "Money" and other songs.
"Our Mayflower Marathon usually does very well each year, but we don't want to assume anything these days," O'Brien said. "If we can get people thinking about donating food at this show, or during our official collection on the Springfield Riverfront just before Thanksgiving, we know it will be a huge help to the Open Pantry in these tough times."
Concert-goers will have the chance to save $2 on their ticket price, simply by bringing a non-perishable food item with them the night of the show. Tickets will be $10 at the door, $8 with a food donation. Tickets may also be purchased for $8 in advance by visiting
