The Best Damn Sandwich: The Student Prince and The Fort – week threeDate: 2/6/2019 SPRINGFIELD – This week’s Best Damn Sandwich is a review of tasty schnitzel as the third part of a four-part series featuring The Student Prince and The Fort.
I’ve always been a bit of a homebody. I don’t go out to eat too much. I prefer the comfort of my home, reading or watching television. That being said, my co-workers at Reminder Publishing have managed to somehow get me out and into the places I didn’t explore during my time as a Springfield resident. Much to their surprise, I had not heard of The Student Prince. From the moment I walked in on the afternoon the news staff went out for lunch, I immediately enjoyed the atmosphere and noted the fitting décor that occupied the walls.
Making a selection of the “best damn sandwich” from a menu can be a daunting task. When every sandwich on the menu sounds like a home run, how am I to choose? I opted for a sandwich that strayed from my usual chicken or turkey choice, the Schnitzel sandwich.
The sandwich contained breaded pork, red pepper aioli, lettuce and tomato. I had not tried schnitzel before, but I’m never afraid to try new foods.
The best way to describe schnitzel to someone who hasn’t tried it before is that it tasted very similar to a pork chop. The breading was consistent throughout the meat and it was deliciously crispy. The red pepper aioli sauce blended perfectly with the breading on the schnitzel and created a great blast of flavor. I was expecting a kick to the sauce when I read “red pepper,” but this wasn’t the case. It was satisfyingly mild. The lettuce and tomato complimented the sandwich well.
I chose to order the sandwich with french fries, a familiar side dish for a not-so-familiar sandwich. The french fries and sandwich made a great pair. I even enjoyed the pickle that was served on the side.
I would recommend this sandwich to anyone seeking a new spin on his or her lunch. The Student Prince and The Fort is certainly a restaurant that I overlooked, but one that I will be making the drive all the way from my home of Windsor Locks to for a great meal. It’s worth the mileage.
