Welsh Society to host St. David's Day celebrationDate: 2/23/2009 The Welsh Society of Western New England (WSWNE) will be celebrating St. David's Day on March 7 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Nutmeg Restaurant in East Windsor, Conn.
Writer Pamela Petro -- Welsh not by birth or heritage, but by choice -- will entertain with "Travels in an Old Tongue, Revisited: Thoughts on Touring the World Speaking Welsh." She'll discuss the gestation of her book, "Travels in an Old Tongue: Touring the World Speaking Welsh"; learning the language through the Wlpan course in Lampeter; her actual Welsh-speaking travels in such countries as Norway, the Netherlands, France, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Argentina; and the book's reception by Welsh expatriates worldwide. We'll hear some passages and learn how she's "staying Welsh" in Western Massachusetts.
The celebration also includes a luncheon of an appetizer, green salad, choice of prime rib, chicken marsala or salmon, potato and vegetable, dessert and coffee or tea. Vegetarian and young people's dinners are also available upon request.
The reservation deadline for the St. David's Day celebration is March 4. To reserve your seats and meal selections, contact Tina Davies at (860) 677-2944.
