SPRINGFIELD Brian P. Tuohey of Longmeadow, president of Collins Pipe and Supply Company, was recognized with an honorary degree at the recent 41st commencement exercises of Springfield Technical Community College. He was honored for his devoted service to the college through the STCC Foundation.

Tuohey has volunteered as a member of the STCC Foundation Board for the past 19 years, and served as president of the board for the last seven years. He also served as co-chair of the college's major gifts campaign, which successfully raised $4.5 million this year to procure state-of-the-art technology for academic programs throughout the campus, with an emphasis on the health sciences, and to fund additional student scholarships.

Tuohey recounted the story of being recruited to the foundation board by his college roommate, and deciding to "give it a year." He became so impressed with the college and its students that he continues to devote time and energy to the institution. He has now taken on the chairmanship of the foundation's planned giving committee to help ensure the future of STCC.

STCC President Ira H. Rubenzahl said, "Brian is a wonderful man and an invaluable member of our foundation. We are very grateful for his efforts on behalf of STCC."

Tuohey, a native of Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and from the College of the Holy Cross. Two of his five children have graduated from STCC.

The STCC Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation which is fiscally and organizationally separate from the college. Funds received by the foundation are used to advance STCC and to encourage and support its students and programs. The foundation's objectives include raising funds from private sources to provide scholarships and other kinds of support services for which funds are needed.
